Additional Info
A ball valve is a quarter-turn valve that incorporates a pivoting ball that is perforated to control the flow of water, oil or gas within the piping system. The ball valve is open when the handle is in alignment with the pipe and closed when the ball valve handle is in a 90 degree angle with the pipe.
Stainless steel ball valves are reliable even after long periods in a stationary position. They are preferred by many plumbers and tradesman when choosing a valve for shutoff applications. The downside is ball valves lack fine control in throttling situations. When looking at the specifications of a stainless steel ball valve you will see descriptions that might include: WOG, which means water, oil & gas.
